Cross Maidan, Mumbai
February 9th 2024

Original canvas painted LIVE at the Cross Maidan by world renowned artist, Andy Brown.

After painting at Azad Maidan the evening before I headed to the nearby Cross Maidan. Cross Maidan is a thinner slice of land than Azad lined with palm trees on one side and apartments on the other. It was around 5pm when I arrived and the sun was setting to my right as I looked down towards the High Court and the Rajabai Clock Tower in the University of Mumbai.   It is called “Cross” due to this being the location where an old stone Cross was built when the city was under Portuguese rule in the 16th century.

Boys were lined up to bowl to the batters in the nets made from large bamboo poles and green netting. A groundsmen watered the playing field. Also captured is the roller and the coffee / chai seller who hydrated thirsty coaches, players and parents watching on.
