Description
Goals, 18/3/20.
A nations sporting heritage is built into the landscapes in which we live. Football goalposts are an ever present feature throughout cities, towns and villages within the UK making up an important part of our landscapes. They are focal points for our communities and society, where we exercise, showcase our sporting prowess and perform our latest tricks. Individuals and teams, friends and families dream, meet, play, celebrate and commiserate at these sporting landmarks.
Prior to the UK lockdown I started painting these goalposts as part of my daily walk. The pandemic was on the rise and tighter social restrictions were on the horizon. The empty posts and landscapes seemed to reflect poignantly the direction in which we were headed within the world locally and globally.
